This autism treatment center is the home of The Son-Rise Program, a program created by Barry Neil Kaufman and Samahria Kaufman for their son Raun. The center states that Raun was diagnosed as autistic. Their son able to attend and graduate an Ivy League college and a book was written called Son-Rise: The Miracle Continues. After this book and a NBC TV movie the Kaufman’s were receiving attention for their Son-Rise Program. In 1983 they created the Autism Treatment Center of America.
The center currently offers autism treatment programs based on what they did for their son Raun. Some claim that Raun may have never had autism and that the treatment program is based on something that happened out of chance. Opinions differ on what changed Raun’s condition, some people even think what Raun had was a food allergy.
Parents pay large sums of money to visit the center for a week of training. Additional levels of the treatment program have been created just to keep families of autistic children coming back for additional programs. Other families claim measurable changes in their autistic children.
